Azure Cloud Shell configuration

With Azure Cloud Shell you can run your Azure PowerShell right from the browser. Just log into the Azure portal and open Cloud Shell. Additional details from Microsoft on Cloud Shell can be found here.

Cloud Shell is accessible by clicking the icon located in the upper right corner of the window

The first time you access Cloud Shell you will be prompted to configure it.

On the welcome screen select a shell, note you can switch between Bash and PowerShell at anytime. Next you need to select your subscription and configure a storage location to house a file share that Cloud Shell will use to store files.

You have 2 options to continue “Create Storage” or “Show Advanced settings. Leaving the defaults and just clicking Create storage creates a new resource group, storage account and file share.  If you select “Show advanced settings” you can specify the resource group, storage account and file share being used.

Once you have filled out the details for the Resource Group, Storage Account and File share you can continue by clicking the Create Storage button. Once the creation process completes you will have access to Azure PowerShell at the bottom of you azure portal page. To open Cloud Shell later use the icon in the upper right corner of the page.
